Brief introduction
This instrument is mainly used for rapid quantitative analysis of ferromagnetic wear particles in oil, measuring the PQ index in oil samples. The PQ index is a dimensionless quantitative number that has a good linear relationship with the content and size of iron abrasive particles in the sample. Due to the sensitivity of PQ index to large-sized ferromagnetic abrasive particles, it is often used in conjunction with elemental analysis to improve fault detection rate.
Use the front panel buttons and knobs to operate, and display various operation options through a form based interface on the display screen. Users can select the appropriate detection method and name the measurement data through detailed settings, and can also quickly detect oil through default settings. During measurement, the display screen will show the detection results in real-time.
The test sample must be placed in an oil sample bottle for testing. This instrument has been equipped with a dedicated 4.5ml oil sample bottle and a matching conversion ring for users.
2、 The significance of PQ index
PQ testing is not used to measure the absolute content of ferromagnetic abrasive particles in oil samples, but to monitor the trend of changes in the content of ferromagnetic abrasive particles in oil samples. The PQ index must be relatively changed by more than 10% to be effective. The PQ index of empty bottles and new oil is often non-zero, which is a normal phenomenon and does not affect trend analysis. As long as the readings of the same type of empty bottle or new oil are consistent, it is sufficient.
The oil spectral analysis method can measure the ppm content of iron, but the data obtained from oil spectral analysis is not very accurate because the spectral technology is not sensitive to large particles and the injection is uneven. Oil spectral technology is usually most effective for grinding particles smaller than 5 μ m in oil samples. The results of oil spectral analysis may also change depending on the shape of the relevant abrasive particles.
The combined use of oil spectral analysis and PQ index analysis can more effectively analyze the content and particle size of iron abrasive particles in oil samples. If the PQ index is lower than the ppm content of iron measured by spectral analysis, it indicates that almost all iron abrasive particles are smaller than 5 μ m in size (this is usually the case for corrosive abrasive particles). If the PQ index is similar or even higher than the ppm content, it is necessary to use analytical ferrography to detect the presence of large abrasive particles.
PQ analysis is only effective for monitoring the wear of iron and nickel materials, and is not applicable for monitoring the wear of aluminum engines and white alloy bearings. However, it can also detect relatively large non ferromagnetic metal particles generated by diesel engine filter damage and can be used to diagnose such faults.
